1979 Suzukie GS750L

Post by 6-71Kid on November 29th 2007, 8:26 am

I figured I'd post some pics of my new project. I want to have it driving by May. I figure if I post pics up here It will get me motivated to get it done.

I got the paint stripped off the outside and painted it black untill I figure out what color I want to paint it.

We'll I got the brakes working to day. Last night I put the carbs back on after cleaning them again poured some gas in and it drained right back out the overflow hose. So after doing some research I order an o-ring kit and after this it should be ready to run. Then I get to try and tune it.

I figure I would post an update. I still haven't got the bike to run right. At first it would start but die almost right away. Found out it was a petcock problem so I replaced it with a generic $20 rather then a more expensive stock one. Well it would now real rough and it was only on one cylinder. So I ended up adjusting the points. It got a little smoother but it was still only on one cylinders. So after some research I decided to replace the plug wires(I had already replaced the plugs), now it runs a two cylinders. Well I did some more research and decided to check the condensers. One was good and one was bad, so know I'm waiting on the electronic ignition kit to show up.

The Beast lives. I actually took a ride over to my brothers house. It's still has some off Idle stumble but if its drivable it can't be far off.

Heres an updated shot of my bike

I still haven't got all the kinks worked out of it but over this winter I'm hopping I can find enough time to make it ridable.

That trike is actually my nephews. But I've been thinking of ways I can modify it for him at least give it a new paint job.

well I did some work on my bike tonight. I'm trying to make a gas tank out of fiberglass.

This is just the foam I'm going to use to make the shape all i got done tonight was gluing it together.

Cole, it looks like a good start,Is this going to be a buck for your mold? or are you planning on just layering glass over the foam and then grinding and filling to make smooth? Also by doing this you are going to make it in 2 pieces and glass the bottom to the top shell, also get a fuel petcock bung and glass it in.I would suggest cutting one out of another tank leaving about a 2 inch radius of flat sheet metal attached to it so it has some sturctural rigidity when you tighten up the petcock. I worked in the fiberglass field longer than I care to mention, if your seriously going to try this there are lots of things to think about first...Before you start shaping this tank you need to consider as to if your going to keep the sides vertical, or a compound curve. The reason I ask is that if its a compound curve removing your piece from the mold can be tricky, you will need to make mold a 2 piece type basically splitting it in half(i.e. top-bottom,left-right,front back). I can walk you thru it there is more to this than it look's or sounds, give me a call or if your going to be able to stop down on Saturday I can explain more in depth and point you in the right direction as far as materials and such......I'm not trying to scare you I just would hate to see you waste your time and material which equals the almighty dollar being wasted...Call Me, Ryan

Thats going to be the buck and I already know I will have to spit the mold in two at least for the top part. I've done alot of research and I don't think it will be to hard of a project. I've been using this thread ,http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=145975, as a guide on how to build mine.

Hers an updated pic of my tank project. I got one side of the tank in to the ruff shape that I want it. Now I have to shape the other side then work on getting the shape perfect.
