Ripped the 350 down tonight. Nothing bad was found. The old block, crank and pistons seem to be in great shape for a hi milage motor. When I get everything cleaned up I'll see what I'm going to do. Right now it looks like it will just get need a hone job.

I got a Vega converter and turbo 350 trans from Joe today. Thanks Joe!!! Very Happy That was one of the last big things I needed. Still looking for a rearend. I have a 4x4 S10 under it now but I'd like to put in one with less gear and maybe a little narrower. Wonder what a 3rd gen F body rearend width is? Should be able to find one of those cheap.
Front end halfway back together. I covered it in plastic and have my welding blanket over it now. When I get back out there for a few days I'm hoping to get the other side of the dash done.
.

I've been looking for a speedo but haven't had much luck. I ran across this bezel on Ebay for less than 10 bucks so I bought it. I figured I could make some gauges fit inside. When I opened the box today he had sent some other pieces. With what he sent me I shouldn't have a problem making something, if I can't find the stock speedo.

Looking good Steve! Who needs a speedo anyways? Haha. I would maybe engine turn a stainless or aluminum piece, put your temp & pressure gauges in there and call it good. Smooth the rest of the dash and keep it simple. Anyhow, here's a couple pics of that tank...

Both Firebird and Camaro rear ends I have measured 61 inch from outside wheel plate to outside wheel plate. I might have a rear end for you if you are interested.

Benny that gas tank is perfect!! Very cool.. Just let me know when you will be free and I'll stop up. The speedo needs to be simple to look right. I may just toss in a few old gauges. Only reason I wanted the speedo is it was a bolt in and get me a few hour farther in the build.

Rob I'll measure what I have and see if I can use it. Any idea what gears are in them?

The Firebird rear has 2.77's and the Camaro rear has 3.23's. Im taking the rear out of the Camaro tomorrow and by the time i get done with it there will be no brackets on it....

As light as this thing is you could probably run the 2:77, get decent mileage and still smoke the tires at will. Hook it up to an OD trans and you could follow me to Bonneville.

In 2 or 3 years.

If I'm lucky.

I have been held up by the cold a little but for the funds or lack of funds for the front brakes. A set up new is almost 600 bucks for everything I needed. Jim Wethington set me up with an almost new complete brake system for the front for half of that. I picked them up yesterday and they are in the garage now. I am still waiting for a few warm days but now that I have the brake stuff I'm pretty home free other than some small goodies. Thanks Jim!!!!

Going to spend the day at the Creation Museum monday. May stop by and steal.... I mean see Bread and Butter... never know! Wink Wink Wink

Give me a shout if you are close. I'm not sure what our plans are other than working on the house. We will be in and out but not far from home.

I'm lovin' this build. I got up at 6:30am, layed brick, painted, and hung downspouts. After work, I went to the garage, cut out the floorboards in the '49, fabbed the passenger side floor, then cleaned the garage. I walked in the door about 11:45pm and read every last post on this thread. Liked it so much, that for a few minutes...I forgot I was tired! };)>

I'll stop up at Randy's and get the tire broke down Monday and give you a call. If you are not close I can drop it off in the evening..
