Re: Desoto
Well, I've not been able to much with the DeSoto with the outdoor garage. I think I need to do something with my sump pump, it didn't do much with the snow.
Any way. There was a guy driving around after the club meeting in some red wagon trying to sell some wheels. I think they might have been "hot" but I didn't care I needed something for the car. I was able to talk the guy down to just giving me the wheels as they weren't in the original boxes.
So I got to working on the car some today. I was cleaning up the wheels, painting them black. I had 2 matching wheels and rims, decided to put those are the rear. I started with the front and the remaining 4 rims. 3 were 15" and the 4th a 14". I picked the best two 15" to clean up and paint.
I got the car up and took off the two front tires and ground off the guide pins off the drums.

Re: Desoto
So I decided I would check how the wheel would fit before I started. Yea you read it correctly, wheel... singular. I should have checked both. So I prep the two wheels, taped them off, primed them, painted them... lookin good!
So after they had dried I put them on the car. I started with the one that I tested. Went on perfect! Just like before. Move around to the other side of the car and...well...you guessed it, didn't fit. The center whole of the rim was not big enough to fit around the bearing part of the drum.
So yea... all that work. Nothing can't use it. It looks good!
So I decided to try the remaining 15" wheel. Now I'm using my head. This one didn't have any air, so before doing anything, went to see if it would hold air. No, not at this time. So, I was left with the 14" wheel. And it did hold air and it did bolt up to the car. It looks pretty small, but I have the wheels off the car.
The wheels were on loan to get the car back to Newport. The back of the car does have a bit more beef on it than before. So now I can go and shred some tires with my 2 cat power motor that I have purring under the hood right now!
Before...

The rear tires before...

Now...

The tiny 14" on the front...HAHA!

Nothing to necessarily brag about right now, but does feel good to start moving in some forward direction.

Re: Desoto
There is another 15" rim that will work but the tire won't hold air. I need to have the tire swapped from the rim that doesn't fit to the rim that does.
So i'll have a left over 14" rim that I can use as a spare tire and a 15" rim that is a 5 lug 4.5 bolt pattern that i won't need. Up for grabs to anyone once I get the tires swapped.

Hey, Sorry you're having so much trouble. I guess one man's junk isn't always another man's treasure. I hope they work for ya.

I'm sure it feel good to finally be able to get outside and do some work on her. It'll all start coming together more and more.

Re: Desoto
Thanks Steve!
Steve came by today after his adventures. While he was out he found a grill for the DeSoto... In-fact is even the correct year (1953)! Thanks!
I took the teeth off the old stuff from the donor car and set them in place just to see what it will look like on the car.
So here it is...
