I'm starting to think that stuffing this 460 in this car was a really bad mistake. We should have went with a smaller engine.
I went last night and picked up the engine and trans. That was a story all on it's own. Mad
I woke up this morning and shoved the gasser out the door and moved the 460 over in front to start dropping it in. Easy swap??? The cherry picker wouldn't go hi enough to clear the radiator support. It was getting top heavy and bending. So I cut out the support!.

It is starting to become a nightmare. The trans tunnel is so small it won't even try to sit back inside the tunnel. Out comes the cut off wheel to make room for a bigger tunnel. Now we are cooking!??? NOPE the exhaust manifolds are hitting the steering box and frame on the other side. I figured that I may be able to flip the manifold over. I went in and got online to find this pic.

Yeap They can be flipped!. I go back out and take them off. I flip the one and it's still hitting the steering box! even if we moved the box and put joints on the shaft it would end up hitting the brake master. Okay lets try the other side. NOPE, it's shooting to close to the firewall! elephant
$400.00 headers are not in the budget...
So I flip the manifold over and upside down and run them through the fenderwells. If we keep the 460 we will need to have some pipes bent to kick the exhaust to the back of the car. Summit sells these mandrel bent U's for that.

Even with the manifold off it is still close. The engine has to be raised up out of the engine bay a little more.

I get it up and get the other manifold to work. Cutting the freshly done fenderwells made me a bit unhappy as well. I was going to shove the engine back inside the firewall to to gain some traction and weight distribution but it's not going any further than it is because of the master and the steering column. On to the trans. The cross member will not work. So I had to make one of of 2"X2" stock. It's not finished but enough to hold it for now. I drop the weight down on the wheels!!!!!
over 800 pounds put a hurt on the gasser.

Measuring from the back rocker down to the ground and from the front of the rocker to the ground shows over a 3" drop in the front compared to the back. Thats without everything on the car. We could put 3" blocks and longer shackels on it BUT....
It gets worse! The springs are flat out. There is too much weight for the front springs. It has hardly any travel and is unsafe the way it is. I think if we was to hook up and the weight of the car came down hard it could snap the springs. If we keep the 460 I think we are going to have to have Brighton Spring make us a set of custom springs for the front.
I'm open for suggestions. This has put a real damper on my spirits tonight.

Again, John has helped us out in a VERY big way. We got the windshield out of this car he just bought.

Here's John getting the seal loose from the glass.

It's always fun to go to Johns. He always has something new sitting around that is just plain cool. Here's his new panel.

When we tell you it's cold up there it's COLD! It went from rain and very cold weather quick. My fingers were frozen to were I was holding them in front of the ready heater to warm them up. And it kept getting colder felt like. Think I'm kidding? That is snow on Dogs shirt.
