Has anyone every heard of this?
I was on a pontiac website. I posted in a tech forum that I needed to know what convertible frames interchanged with my pontiac. I got my questioned answered and then this guy posted this.
don't mean to through cold water on the idea of making goat better but frame swapping can be dangerous to ones freedom. It is a felony to do so without going through the dismantle and reconstruct titles in the two states that I am familiar with, it's also a federal felony as well. Even though it's not done to defraud anyone you could still be up against it if the man was to push it. I personally would do a lot of patching before putting myself and or my car at risk. I say this because I know someone who lost his car and a lot of money because he didn't do it right. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Take it for what it's worth. Stay safe.
I replied that all the people that do the camaro and nova subframe swaps are felons. Plus the s10 frame swaps. I can barely get a title transfer at the local DMV.

If that's the case, then wouldn't we have a lot of felons going way back to when hot rodding first began? Just curious.

my 55 f100 had a VIN on the frame, but if not reported stolen, no crime, if cut away, no VIN, no crime, so I think yes and no, I have NEVER heard of anybody losing a car over a lagite frame swap....But I have only been building these hot rods 35 years now.....JW
Re: Has anyone every heard of this?
I agree with Bill. Just do it, the guy is a goofball..
If you don't like my dinged and dented hot rod sitting next to yours, put yours back on it's trailer and leave!
Re: Has anyone every heard of this?
I had a freind that did 7 years for that out of ohio but it was on a late model i have did it on a build er title car i know the ohio state troopers are assholes when they inspect a car allready got that teeshirt thats why i title them in ky all frames have a id no. on them some where ask a cop about it and the feds know where to look !!! i dont think thay watch the old stuff to close but its not to say they couldn't Do it at your own risk chances are the poncho will rust away before anyones the wiser Best thing i can tell you if your building a rod keep recipets and make sure they have a serial no. on them save a whole lot of hassel from smokey bear !!!
HAVE YOU DRIVEN A FORD LATELEY ?
Re: Has anyone every heard of this?
I'm not paying too much attention to it. A pontiac guru said that the frame does have a number on it but is on the end of the back at the back. If I grind the number of, it shouldn't be any problem. The car will be licensed.
Re: Has anyone every heard of this?
Use a TIG torch and melt the number out of it.
If you back halved the car it'd be gone anyway.

Re: Has anyone every heard of this?
I junked a 56 Ford frame some time ago. I had t have the title and they checked the numbers on the frame. Cut the numbers out and weld them on the next one.
