No Electricity

Post by 1/2done on September 15th 2008, 1:59 am

They said it could be days before it comes back on. I'm sitting in the dark running my laptop with an aircard off a jump pack, watching the drag race on tv using an extension cord plugged into the power inverter on my tool truck.
Improvise, adapt, overcome.
Now I just need to figure out how to run my well pump so I can take a shower.

It was rough down here. I lost some gutters, a little trim and some roofing. I guess I was lucky. The guy two door up lost his roof and so did a guy two blocks down. I've never seen so many sided house sitting half bare from the wind before. Even through the storm in FL when we lived there. Everyone kept saying to stick my scooter in the garage. I was in the alley watching my roof breath like a set of lungs. I figured it was safer out on the street. Corey's new dog house on his truck took a hit from a falling roof section. Scratched up the paint and put a dent in one of his new fenders. I haven't been out to the property yet. Mom said a few trees fell but everything seems to be okay.
If you don't like my dinged and dented hot rod sitting next to yours, put yours back on it's trailer and leave!

I lost around 10 trees.
Still no power.
I have the fridge plugged in now so hopefully the food will survive.

Sad WOW! You guys must have got it bad. It was windy here. Gusts up to 35 mph. Had a lot of limbs and fruit come down, but thank God no structure damage.

35mph? We had gusts to 78mph and 40mph constant.
They're saying it may be Saturday before the power comes back on.

we lost power for about 24hours here. We got lucky that we only had one big branch comedown here even though we have a tree in the back yard that should have come down its half eaten away by termites. theres a lot of trees down around here if i get a chance later i might post up some pictures later

I really feel for you guys. I hope some of you have generators to keep from losing the perishables. We went through this when that ice storm hit some years ago. We were without power, phone and water for two weeks, so I know where some of you are coming from. I just thank God that I don't live in Texas or Louisiana.

The insurence lady called today and said no one can come anytime soon. I told her ours isn't as severe as most others so we can be put closer to the bottom of the list.

We got power but no phone, internet or cable. I haven't been able to work all week. It's evidently worse south of town. I know some people at work are going to find 3 or 4 days w/o pay a little rough. I'm at the library now chwecking in.

One of my customers gave me a generator to use today so I have running water, fridge and tv now.
I need to send him and his family out to dinner.
