Re: 52 Chevy, mild custom
the thin sheetmetal that devided the front and rear door was heated and hammered back flush with the rear door and then weld to it.

The door post were welded back together. Most of the time you can use the side pieces you cut off the post to add what you need to make it longer. This time the piece was to short so I used a piece from the rear post. It was a little tall and had to be worked to get a good fit but she's in there.

The shears we used leaves little rolls about 80 thousands of an inch wide. Just right to fill the rear door. Unroll it and start tacking.

The back used a few pieces to get the roof to roll to the back glass. Again I used the english wheel from Harbor Frieght that everyone on HAMB was knocking. If you get use to which way the roll is and how you want the metal to bend , it works GREAT!

Re: 52 Chevy, mild custom
I don't like sharp edges so I want everything rounded.

Take the piece you cut off the door and weld it to the body. I also had to bend and weld in a filler to close the inside of the now new door opening.

Re: 52 Chevy, mild custom
No, I haven't been out there. I did get some sand paper so now I can clean off the crud that is around the work area. I need to get some more mud too. It's gonna need some mud slung. If you feel like messing with it we can sling some mud. Maybe this weekend. If not it's no biggie.

Re: 52 Chevy, mild custom
I'll be in the garage today if anyone wants to stop by.
I found some old pics and figured I'd post em.
When I'm done with the car I don't want anyone to be able to figure out that it started life as a 52 Chevy. Nothing against the old Chevies but I just like the more wild looking stuff that makes you have to stop and try to figure it out. I always loved the mid 50's Merc bumpers. I found one at the Punkin Run a few years ago and snatched it up.

I'm not sure I will use it but so far I like it better than other stuff I have seen. The side sat way over the wheel well.

A little cutting on the car and the bumper had it meeting up a little better.

Re: 52 Chevy, mild custom
If I do keep the Merc bumper on it I may cut off the upper part of the grill that I welded to the body. It lets you in that it is a chevy and really doesn't roll with the Merc bumper and dagmars. I may use something more round to give it a smoother look. I will also mold the fenders into the top of the bumper. I guess I will have to do it for most to understand what I mean.
