Sad thing is I remember when the building blew up. They let us out of school and we watched the smoke from Mildred Dean Elem. Yeah I know, I'm getting old. If I remember right I think Johnny (JBS10) had the rear windows of his house blew out. For the ones that don't know about this, they were making M80's and all kinds of fireworks. Barrels of gun powder was stored there. Someone screwed up and blew the block down. Not just one building, the block. The pic you see is where the police station is now. 10 & Monmouth.

The other pic is on 4th St. Look down the street Riggs and you will see the court house. Syndicate owned the Merchants club and it was ran by Red Masterson. Masterson was shot after leaving the club one night by another club owner. Masterson lived and as payback the Syndicate sent word it was his club or his life so the gunmans club went into the hands of the Syndicate. Just a little gangster history.

For the ones that didn't know Wiedemann Brewing Company and the Wiedemann Mansion was in Newport. The house I grew up in was on the same block as the mansion.11th and Park. The mansion is still there but the city let the grounds be sold off and now we have houses all around the once grand property.
