Old gearhead in Olive Hill

Post by RebStew on March 28th 2009, 5:23 pm

Yesterday I ran some parts down to our brother club in Carter County. John Met me for lunch and afterwards ask me if I had some time to run around. We went to Heaths place first and I checked out is Camaro that the garage fell on. Then on to this older guy that John has known for a long time. He opened the garage and we hung out for a long while just talking hot rods. The guy had some real cool stories that only come with age and wisdom. People like him is why I am like I am. It is like a junky getting his fix listening to these old stories of hot rodding, racing and motorcycle riding back when riding a scooter wasn't the fad it is now. I'm hoping I can sit down with him again when I have more time. He was a super nice guy.
Here's a 44K Cadi that he has.

He also had a great selection of hot wheels. Riggs you would have flipped.

This is the one I liked. The shoe box was bought for is kid but when she wanted to get married she told him she was selling the car. He bought her something else and kept the shoe box. He's had it ever since. When they first got it, it was a late 60's early 70's style machine with big fatties in the rear with the 1'4 cut and skinnies up front with a 289 between the frame. He has been slowing turning it back into a custom. Frenched headlights, tail lights, louvered hood and had the top chopped. He's looking to fix the rear wheel wells next.

He also has his scooter that he's had for a while. I'll post more pics in the bike section.

Huge loss for CCC and all of the rodders interested in rodding history. When I met him you could tell he was the real deal. What a shame John.

Wow, that's just a real shame. Sounds like he was the real deal and a good guy to boot.
