Newport Fire Department at work!

Post by RebStew on May 10th 2009, 7:45 pm

By the time they got there the place was engulfed. It didn't help that the fire jumped to the house across the alley. I stood and watched it do it. From the angle the department was in they could not see it. The heat walked across the roofline under the gutter, of the northern house and it cought. They shot it with water and thought they got it. It had already made it into the roof. I could see a small hole from the west side of the house where it had made it through. After it went through the roof it didn't take long to loose the second house. They did a good job. I heard people griping about what they should be doing but I had a great view and I don't think any department could have done better. With the way these houses are sitting we are lucking we didn't loose a few more.

I heard them around 3am on the scanner but I didn't know what street it was actually on. So was that 10th or 8th street?

I was wondering where you were Steve. I was out there, just in the same alley on the opposite side of Isabella than you.
