Using Old Plate

Post by 6-71Kid on September 13th 2009, 12:31 pm

I was at the springfield swapmeet today and bought some 1947 plates. I was wondering what does it take to use them on a car.

In Ky all you need is historical tags and you can run them. I think Ohio is different but not for sure. Doug may know.

I was looking around too and found out that the same rules apply to. So that you can only drive it to events. So what I think that I might do is just clean these up and put them on at car shows.

I have been using the YOM law for years and never had anyone stop me for it. They stay on the bumper down here. I have heard of people being freaked out about how the law was written. If you are pulled over coming from work and they say something tell them you are going to Doug or Jeff's house for a club get together. It's a club function and legal. In Ky I've never had a problem. Even if you do get pulled over there are a ton of stuff you could say. I am going to a show this weekend and I'm taking the car to get it washed and detail at your local car wash or friends house. Maybe I just got lucky but the first time I ran YOM tags was on my 67 Pontiac wagon and that has been around 17 years ago. I've never had a problem.

This is a pic of my 'Bird at the Newport Car Show. I figured that I would get messed with by the PD for this tag. Not because of the 1980 tag but the wording on the bottom. No one says anything. Very Happy

In Ohio to run YOM plates you have to first have register the car with historical tags. They are a one time purchase but are only to be used to drive to and from parades and shows. To run the YOM plate it has to also be registered with the DMV. You must carry the registration and the issued historical tag with you to be able to present it on demand if need be. I’ve been pushing my luck a bit lately driving my old POS Merc to and from work about three days a week. No I’ve driven it all over the state, to Indianapolis to the races (not a show) and down to Bowling Green a couple of times, once for the HHR (a show) and once to the races (not a show). cheers I haven’t driven it to any local shows yet this summer. I’ve been lucky because my neighbor got caught running a historic tag on his coupe and was fined about $50 quite a few years ago. :rabbit: Here in the area there are cruise ins (shows) every nite of the week: Lebanon and Brookville on Monday; Vandalia on Tuesday; Englewood and Hamilton on Wednesday; Carlisle, Moraine, Piqua, and West Milton on Thursday; Beavercreek and Milford on Friday, Hamilton and Middletown on Saturday; and Fairborn and Hamilton on Sundays. That’s just the daily events and not counting the once a month events and the special events. Learn the schedule. :pirat: Changing the tag at car shows would be a hassle to me. :elephant: I’ve been going to register the Merc in my daughter’s name and put regular plates on it but haven’t taken the time. Jeff was going to register his with a YOM tag. He should know the ins and the outs. study
