ford 2n tractor

Post by junkyard junky on October 24th 2009, 2:37 pm

I don't know if it is ok to post the progress of my ford 2n tractor. Another side project that I have. I bought the tractor out of northern TN. The guy that I bought it from said that it might possibly be a government tractor. The tractor does have green paint that looks like the original. The guy said he inherited the tractor from his grandfather and he remembered when he was a kid that the tractor had amber headlight lenses. he drained the oil and filled the engine to keep it from getting stuck. I got the tractor home and sure enough the engine was stuck. Very Happy . So I drained all the fluid. I started bolting the head and at the very last bolt snapped off. After spraying pb blaster over the studs I finally was able to pull the head off. Two cxylinders had some light corrosion.

I talked to the guy who built my dad's chevelle engine and he was starting his shop back up. So I pulled the front end off and pulled the engine.

Engine pulled.

I talked to Kevin who is working on the engine and he finally got the engine tore apart. The engine spun a rod bearing. The crank is going to have to be sent off. He said that the engine has been built before. But that doesn't surprise me. He also said the engine had adjustable lifetrs, A plus. Sending the crank out soon.

She apart... I need to work on mine but just don't seem to have time to mess with it. Mine is leaking fluid where the steering arms comes out of the case. Mine is an old Massey but it's set up just like a 8N

Man, how many things you got setting around? Tractors, trucks, cars..............

You start putting that thing together, you planning on doing it in Army green or Ford blue and grey?

Don'y know what color I will paint it. I have to look at the top late on the gear bos. It has a hole in it. I've had a couple of motorcycles also.

Worked on the tractor some more this week.

Pulled the lift arms off, pto shaft, seat and hydraulic pump. The push button starter plate broke on the inside, so I'll have to replace that.

I pulled the rear wheels, axle shafts, drums and backing plates. I also pulled the bottom part of the hydraulic pump. Going to pull the rear fenders off and axle housings so I can clean inside the housings.

The old oil didn't smell. Wasn't too bad. No rust, just sludge. Smile

Cleaned the housing outs. Put both axle housing back on. Took the axle shafts to the local tractor dealership to have new outer grease seals installed. Had to torch the bearings in order to get the new seals on. Also installed inner grease seals. Right axle shaft was installed today. Been cleaning the hydraulic pump and misc parts.

They must have made a zillion of them as I see them everywhere and I dont think too many were scrapped,I think you can get a bunch of parts for them at tractor supply.
