Vickers XXX Rod Project

Vickers likes those so called rat rods. He's been driving me nuts for months talking about them and wanting to build a low buck hot rod out of junk. Well he has started his project. Trying to talk him into an early traditional style or even a 60's era hot rod is not going to happen. He's stuck on build a beater. I think it will be a fun project and I'm sure it will see many miles next summer.

He has been looking for something that no one else would try to put together. Something that is so ruff that no one else could see making it a hot rod.
We went to the action last week and he found what was left of a 32 Ford. It is no more than two 1/4's with the front part cut at the jams and a trunk skin welded on.

After a few days he told me that the back end use to be a hot rod. I didn't think so. 32 Ford Cabriolet? I got to looking after Vickers talked about the tail lights. You can see a round mark around the hole. Looks close to what a set of 50 Pontiacs would look like. The trunk was not a sheet but the stock trunk lid. It had been welded shut and we found lead in the welded area and over the home made hinges that someone had put on. A little more looking and we found where it use to have bobbed fenders spot welded 4" higher on the quarters. Which could have been for a 4" channel job. The sheet metal is rought than a cobb but it was in fact a hot rod at one time in it's life. Green paint hides in some spot too. So maybe?? 1957? 62?? Some dude was cruising around in the green 32 Cabriolet with 50 Pontiac tail lights, bobbed and raised rear fenders and maybe a 4" channel. Pretty cool. We will never know for sure the history of the car. There is not enough of it to chase down. But it is kind of cool that an old rod even though there nothing left of it will hit the streets again.

He's not making a 32 but just a pieced togther rod that he can play with. So 1932 years will be the back end only. We did some trading and he ended up with this cowl. I though it was a Ford then I wasn't for sure. I explained it to someone and they said it may be a 28 Chevy Cowl. Anyone know ???

We thought it would be in 3 pieces by the time we got it back to Vickers house. It stayed together though.

That is a late '31 Ford closed car cowl. Only made for the last few months of Model A production. Easy to tell by the tear-shaped indent in the firewall. They are fairly desirable...

Thanks Benny. That round spot had me stumped. I've had that cowl laying out at the other house for 2 or 3 years..I'd never seen another one.

Vickers asked me to post because he is still living in a cave. He said, and I quote " The XXX rat rod porno shoot is almost ready to roll and is moving under its own power! " Anyone who knows Vickers knows this will be an interesting peice. Pics may follow if he allows.

Me and Johnny stopped in on Vickers to see this XXX Rod he's working on.

We can see where this one is heading already.

He started it up for Johnny and me. It didn't sound half bad for a 6 banger Ford.
