66 mercury comet steering question
The steering on dad's comet has a lot of slop in it. We have adjusted it a little. I tried looking through hemmings to see if I could another gear box or a rack n pinion kit. Anyone has any info? He got insurance on the car and it does fine except for the slop in the steering.

If it has power steering it could be slop in the control valve that attaches to the pitman arm,if you need a box 66 and 67 are the same and there are some at Starks and Modoc.

It doesn't have power steering. After looking on a couple of websites, I knew I would have problems finding parts

Try contacting these guys. They are Ford steering specialists. Always set up at the Columbus Ohio Spring and Fall All Ford Swap Meets. They can help you figure out the problem and even rebuild your existing steering box if that turns out to be the problem. Good people.....

There are a few in the junkyards around here if you are ever in the area, make sure it has grease in it as Dougs falcon was dry. You put the grease in the top bolt for the plate that holds the adjustment screw.
