One Man's Mistake

Post by Roller Coaster on July 9th 2010, 9:55 am

FORD SUCKS AND BLOWS AT THE SAME TIME! Which, as a side note, technically is physically impossible. Mad

Janet's Ford Escape has 74,XXX miles on it and the Ford dealership is saying that the transmission needs replaced. Mad

You are not going to find much that are better in the GM camp too,all late models are junk so buy her a older vehicle. You could not pay me enough to take any latemodel made after the 80s and definately no FWD,my girlfriend has a 96 Saturn and they are the biggest POS on the road and her 98 dodge truck is not much better.

I don't agree with ya Jeff. I have had many late model GM's with well over 100K and with the stock stuff. Same with Fords but I do have to admit I have more problems from the Ford than GM's. Even at 74K mile seem a little strange to loose a trans as long as it's not been beat on.

Maybe It is luck, maybe it is proper maintenance, but my 1996 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD has 271,XXX miles on it and the only parts that are not OEM besides "standard maintenance items" are the radiator, the rebuilt starter, and the timing chain.

Janet's Escape hasn't been beat on at all, they are almost all highway miles.

On a side note, I couldn't agree more with the above mentioned front wheel drive comment. I have not, and hopefully will not, drive a front wheel drive vehicle on a regular basis.

I think the new Mopars are worse than Ford or GM. I never had any luck out of them.

When most of the latemodels are out of warranty they are useless and cost too much to keep going so you will never catch me owning one,you need to see the late 90s to early 2000s that come in the shop to get stereos and alarms as they are junk. The late model trucks are decent but all the big three FWD cars are a joke and not worth owning,I know nothing about the imports but still wont buy them. I just see too many latemodels coming in the shop with the dash lit up with warning lights barely running and falling apart so you wont see me buying one.

I think the escape is a joint venture with mazda and should have gotten many more miles out of the trans, those latemodel trans cost a fortune to go through as they wanted about 1700 to do the trans in the womans truck but found a used one for 550.

dad's 92 chevy truck has 332k miles on it and stills has the origial clutch. We don't drive it anymore and needs a new clutch. Original trans, engine and rear end.

the 95-02 dodge truck auto transmissions always went bad. The problem was that when they were rebuilt, if the trans cooler wasn't cleaned out or a new one installed the shavings would go back into the trans. There was some kind of pressure switch that had to be taken out. Thats what a mopar fanatic told a buddy of mine.

My 92 F150 had about 300,000 on the original trans and front suspension when I got rid of it,if I had someone look at it before I took off on a trip to New York it would still had the original motor. It got too good of gas mileage and most likely had a couple bad injectors so I burned a hole in a piston at 206,000 miles going up the side of a mountain.

I think the most miles I ever had on a car was of all things a Volvo. If I remember right it had 320K and was still running pretty good. A guy in Chi Town bought it and drove it all the way home with no problems.

I think all the Volvos imported to the states had 4 cylinders and I think a six was available in Europe, the few I drove ran ok but with a six they would have been more fun to drive. Years ago there was a hotrodded late 30s Volvo in Streettrodder magazine and it had a latemodel at that time Volvo straight 6 in it along with the rest of the drivetrain,I was thinking where was that motor since all I seen here were fours.
