Rage wrote:I been wanting to get the Camaro to the track and see what it will run after the swap , before it had a 2.8 in it and ran 17.4 I would be happy with 15's with the 305 in it , at take off it just spins thru 1st gear and part of second so I'll need some tips to get a better run , I'm a rookie at the track lol , I've had less then 10 passes , also it is a 5 speed anyone have any tips ?

Bill, as I recall, you can drive around the water box at Tri-State. Do that. Take a tire gauge and try to hit the line at about 28lbs rear the first time. Street radials don't necessarily respond well to burnouts. Try a run w/o doing one. Make sure the front tires are at least pumped to oem specs. If you are overpowering it in 1st, is 2nd low enough to laungh the car?

Would my 275-40/17 Nitto Drag Radials fit under your car? Wink

Bill I'm sure we can scrounge up a set of slicks if you want to run them but will will take a chance on breaking something. It's up to you. We won't leave you stranded either way. You break it we will fix it or make sure you get it towed home.

Re: When is the next track day?

I'm not gonna race this car reguraly , I just want to see what it will do like it is , but I dont have enough experiance dragging on a strip to accomplish what it will do ?
I appreciate the offers on the slicks , I do know that my last run was my best time when it had the 2.8 of 17.4 and that was rolling out of the throttle but now if i'm riding down the road and hammer it in 2nd it will spin tires so I'm wondering if I roll out of the throttle and hammer it in 2nd is it gonna spin way to much on the track ? it has 373 rear gears , world class v-8 5 speed.
Another question I had was with it now having an exhaust cutout , should I open it wide open before going down the track ?

You're at a place where you can open the cutout, so why not? Try it open and closed and see which works better.

The caveat is that if you have trouble getting traction, and the cutout adds HP, you're going to make your 60' time worse and your total ET worse. We've seen over & over that the 60' time is key.

I wouldn't spend any time worrying about it. When I had the Camaro on the dyno tuning it I only saw a 5 HP increase (about 1%) at the rear wheels with the cutouts open. If you have a very restrictive muffler it might be a slightly bigger difference.

GO FOR IT!
