Aryan's 1979 Firebird ~ The Fire Chicken

Post by Kyle on May 23rd 2011, 2:24 pm

I traded my Mustang for a 79 firebird. I like the body style better. These are my favorite cars. I asked dad if I could trade for a Trans Am. We looked for a long time. Everything we looked at was junk. Then we found this. cheers

The steering wheel bugs me. This is the ONLY thing I have left of my 79 that Amy wrecked. As you can see she bent the wheel when she hit the truck head on.

Almost all the body work was done and it was close to getting a new coat of red paint on the car.

I thought this was an easy fix. I held it down and gave it a pull. It bent at the holes. I spent an hour with two rags, dolly & hammer and even a big rubber mallet to get the wheel back straight. It turned out pretty good. I almost tossed it when it doubled over at the holes.

Love the look of the tailights and no rear spoiler.

I think the car would look killer with a buff job, tinted windows and some nice wheels. He doesn't think so. I can't talk him out of the rear spoiler. He is also wanting a T/A hood and shaker. He may change his mind but he has his hart set on a T/A clone. I explained to him how clean it would look if he just left it alone but he's not having it.

We looked at a lot of T/A's. The problem was they were all rust buckets or beat to death. This car has 49K original miles on it. I know these cars well. Every place that they rust I was all over it. Floors, frame rails are perfect. Under the rear bumper there is a part of the body that rust like crazy. This one is spotless. The corner dash pieces that rust when the windhield seal gets old is perfect. There are two small rust holes in the 1/4's forward of the wheels. About the size of a quarter. Easy fix and the only rust I have found. I told Aryan that he could do what he wants but this base model Bird was in better shape than any T/A or Formula we looked at. So if he wants to clone a T/A that's up to him I guess. At least the body is solid and I don't have to patch it all up. Very Happy

They run the front end into something and bent the tag holder back into the nose. It had to come off. It left the nose with pushed in spots under the tag. Depending on if the nose takes it shape back will depend on if another plate bracket will go back on it. Hopefully it comes out. If not I have a bracket that is not bent.

We also scraped the formula wording and stripes off the nose.

Aryan is trying to come up with some cash to buy the wheels Jonathan(junkyard junky) has for sale that was on that 3rd gen Camaro. He has his 5 rally II rims for sale for $40.00 and the rare 10th Anniversary Trans Am wheels. The anniversary wheels don't come with the caps. We are keeping those for another set of wheels we have. $150 on the 10th Anniversary wheels, they have okay tires on them too. Same as a Turbo T/A also. If you know of anyone that needs some Pontiac rims let him know about these.
