My first car venture
Things are really starting to come together for me on my Camaro so I figure it's time to post my first project log! Woo! Here is my car and my lavish shop space.

Halp. Seems to me I remember there being instructions on here somewhere... I'll be back.

Go to the Home page and then to Photos. Stew has detailed directions on how to do it. With a little practice it's pretty easy.

Re: My first car venture
I'll get some real car pics when I can move it again. Resurfaced flywheel and new clutch kit. It's a stage two South Bend Clutch part. That's one step up from oem.

I finally made a decision on my cam. I ended up somewhere in the middle of the range of recommendations I got, maybe a bit more radical. Having the 305 heads changed things a bit. I got springs and hydraulic flat tappet lifters too.

I decided to keep the 305 heads and see how much flow I can get out of them. I shaped the guide bosses a bit, blended the bowls and smoothed the chambers.

Re: My first car venture
Oh yea and reduced valve shrouding a bit. I decided to go black on the motor. My valve covers and air cleaner cover were dinged up and not very shiny anymore so I painted them too.

It's fun getting to know a new car. This one came with high flow exhaust

And a custom k-member

You can't see it in the picture but you can still read " 1/2 inch" on the wrench.

Re: My first car venture
Can you get to that hole to weld it up the right way? I know those cars are kind of compact in some spots.

Looks like a little grinder work is in order as well. Do you know why they hacked up the frame like that?

Re: My first car venture
I think it was header clearance. The beat in spot on the pipe and the cut out area of the k member line up. I can get to it really easily with the header and motor out of there. She's not in the best of shape. I'd like to get these things squared away but it would also help to be able to drive this beast. Part of the reason I bought it was to upgrade to a vehicle that didn't need any immediate work. You see how well I did at that!

Re: My first car venture
The short block is assembled... Just a few days 'till motor install!
I think wheelies might be a bit ambitious with this build... maybe next time. Give me a few years to save up and it's on.

I have some wheelie bars hanging in the rafters of my garage when you get ready for them.
