A old looking straight six
I dont want to give up on the 235 I have in my 37 Chevy p/u since I spent some time trying to get it to look like a 216 but there is a issue with the motor and if a rod goes out the side of the block before I can pull the pan and check the #2 rod I found a old looking six that I can put in its place. I have never owned a Chevy motor that I would consider good including this 235 and had much better luck with Ford motors so there is a 263 or 264 thats a big brother to the 223 that I am going to look into and I think I know where one is,the carb is on the same side as the 235 as with the distributor and starter and with the 61-4 truck mounts it might bolt into the 37 frame with minor modifications. One thing I like about those sixes is they had a full flow oil filter unlike the 216/ 235 and early 261s that had the bypass filter that only about 1/5 of the oil gets filtered at all times, this will give me a excuse to go to my local old junkyard and do some measuring to see how close in size it is to the 235 and it also has a 2 bolt valve cover so a 216 valve cover might fit and I can get alot of people wondering on what motor it is. I built the 235 over 20 years ago and trying to remember all what was done to it and the more I think about it I think at the time the crank was good and only polished so #2 journal might be out of round so the motor will have to be pulled and it has one cylinder sleeved so if it comes out it will be replaced, will most likely take the easy way out with another 235 or if I get lucky and find a 261 but that Ford six is about the only other six I can put in it to retain the old look.
