POR 15?

Post by Arieldouglas on November 30th 2011, 3:18 am

OKay, I'm asking an opinion of you guys. I realize I may get more than I'm bargining for but here goes. Smile

What rust reformer/converter do you think is best. Working from the front to the back, I'm replacing the rocker panels now and would like to seal the hidden rust before it's inaccessable.

So, let's hear what your experiance tells you. I've never used it before. cherry

I've never used the POR 15. I heard it was good stuff though. I use a cheap spray on converter myself. Clean the rust up the best I can then shoot it. It's turns black. 72 hours later I prime and paint it. I have never had a spot come back through.

POR 15 works great if you follow ALL the steps. Have to use the metal wash and prep that they sell for it to work like it should.
If you skip a step, it will scrap off very easily. (found this out the hard way) Make sure all your welding is done before you put it on, it doesn't like being welded on. (again found out the hard way) Had it on the inside floor and welded a new floor brace underneath lots of smelly smoke and even some flames.) On sheet metal, I like to use a spray on rust converter and weld through primer.

I used POR15 for both painting over rust and they have repair kits for floors and trunks. My floor had a few places, non big enough to pitch a cat through, but needed patching non the less. Love the paint, used it on a battery tray on my Nova. Used the floor board repair kit which consists of a putty for smaller holes and fiberglass mat you position and "paint" the POR mixture over. Worked really good. very happy.
