It only shows 86K when it dropped the valve.

I would not be suprised if it has different sized pistons in it and a slightly smaller piston in one hole since it always blew a little oil out the breather.

Bought a rebuilt sbc longblock for a DD from a big name rebuilder around Dayton. After a few thousand miles, the number 6 cylinder started to sound off. Pulled the head and found a .020 overbore on three cylinders and almost .025 on number 6. All the piston skirts had been knurled, and all pistons had .020 rings. Put the head back on, and pulled the motor to return for my warranty. When I got there, I was informed that since I hadn't had them install the motor, my warranty was VOID.

My motor was built by a shop called Indy mustang which I heard nothing but horror stories about since purchasing,I have heard about Jasper motors having cylinders bored to different sizes and I hope they quit doing that since the 460 in my 66 f250 was built by them.

Around here some people swear by them and others swear at them. Razz I guess it's that way everywhere but I have personally had experisnce with three Jasper motors that went down with too few miles on them. Same thing, the warranty might as well be written on toilet paper for all it's worth. Evil or Very Mad

200,000 possible miles on a original motor and much less on a rebuilt so what is going on,I would have been better off with a used motor for the 55 and 37.

Might have dodged a bullet as I changed the oil and I can not get the noise to return or the lifters to tick on the highway so maybe the motor did not like the Meijer house brand 10w30 oil,I put in Delo 15w40 and the guys at a construction company up near the cabin swore by Rotella and put it in everything including the lawn mowers so I am going to look for a bulk supplier and see if I can get it a little cheaper and us it in everything.

I've used Valvoline in all my engines from the beginning. Never had any problems. That's what my uncle and his buddies used in their race car. My Dad used it too. Grandpa always said that it all came out of the same hole in the ground but I don't think that's quite right. He also added Marvel Mystery Oil to everything. MOst of the fellows that I know with really good motors use the high priced spread. Maybe you really do get what you pay for. Gotta be careful where ya cut corners. In the grand scheme of things, a little more a quart isn't much over 3,000 miles of driving. At a $1.00 a quart it's only about two tenths of a cent more a mile for five quarts. That's only half of a ha'penny "and if you haven't got a ha'penny, God Bless You!" (Man, I haven't heard that old Christmas song in years. Just had to do it.)

Hate to say it 'cause I hate going there but Wally World has the best prices on oil around here. Even Rotella. That's all I run in the diesels. Never thought about runing it in the gas burners though. scratch

This is the only motor I had that did not like a oil I put in it,going to try the 15w40 in the 37 since it has a little rattle too and see how it does.

Did ya put any miles on that 55 yesterday to see if it still made any noise? It was nice enough to take it out for some miles, at noon it was 60 degrees.

I put about 40 miles on it last sunday and no noises, along with the mystery noise it had a constant tick from one or two lifters on the way home from Florida but I heard none since changing the oil.
