Leave the hood emblem on or take it off?
Re: Curious what you would do?
Well, here we go again. I’ll see if I can do this with a minimal amount of grief from people. I like that style of truck for sure. The primered one is cool because of the chop but either the windshield angle is wrong or it’s because the hood’s been pancaked. To me it just doesn’t look right, like the Blue Eyed Devil said “Ditch the chrome and the strip, but peak the hood”. I think that the vertical center grille bar makes it look too heavy or massive in the front and the chrome bumper is a must. The flat black is just about getting to be a little too mach. That, with the white walls and red rims are about like a-holes, everybodies got one or knows at least one. I too like the white one, it’s subtle and clean looking. If it’s to be a real shop truck I would think that you have to consider the image you want to project. I don’t mean that you have to sell out and do something you don’t believe in but if it’s going to be a billboard, what do you want to advertise? A hot rod, something unfinished that leaves people believing that’s the way of business, or a restored truck that sets so high you need air sick bags? I’ve seen some of these with late model beds of some sort that look pretty cool. It updates and still has some of the old look and with a deck plate floor, it would be usable. What would I do? I’d slam it, dechrome it, put 17” or 18” Cragar SS’s on it, paint it Ford Blue and have Jeff help put in a 302 SBF and an AOD with a set of 6” cannons coming out the back. Then have it all lettered up with some sort of nose art on the door. Remember, you asked.

I wish there was something decent on TV because I'm getting tired of typing all this crap. I guess it's something to do and helping my typing skills. At least I've seen that some people are reading this dribble. That's more than the reports I do at wotk. I only wish I could get aas good a rise out of them. Then maybe I could stay awake @ work.

Doug after I read this it was a no brainer. I agree 100%. I'm going to build it like I would build a hot rod. Only difference is I'll work the truck. I guess the hood is getting de~chromed!Mr. Fabulous wrote:If it’s to be a real shop truck I would think that you have to consider the image you want to project. The grille is a matter of preference. I like the 54 grille. It stands out from the other million trucks running around. I wish I could have it chromed but that is no where in the budget.
That primered black truck with the pancaked hood is okay. A little ??A lot to take out of the hood. Those trucks need the hood pancaked but he went too far. A 1" cut at the front and pie cut it coming back would have been perfect in my eyes. Enough to give it flow but not enough for 90% of people to figure out it was even done. Almost stock

Sure beats spending a house payment on chrome plating.

Nowak's truck is one of those trucks that you either love it or you hate it . Well maybe I should say it's an aquired taste.
I agree the flat black thing is starting to get old as well and to throw in another two cents. The whole shop name on the door thing is starting to get old as well. In my very self important cocky opinion anyway.

Looking at that video it may be worth checking out. It didn't look half bad. I wonder what the stuff would look like after 4 years on a car that sits outside though? I thought about doing all the chrome on the truck in a light gun metal grey. I like the look but if you get the shade off too much it looks like crap to me. Thanks for posting Bill. I may have to try that.

You can topcoat with urethane clear after the chrome clear. As long as you seal the edges of the chrome clear with urethane clear I think it would wear like any other BC/CC paint job.

There's a pair of Chevys from up in Michigan the have the bumpers painted. They've been all over the country and the internet. I've seen them at the Rebel Run, Ducktail, and the Pileup. One's a blue 2 door like your old four door and the other one is a 54 BelAir that's bright green with a silver top. I don't know if they used the same stuff but it sure looked good. That powder coating place up in Piqua has a finish that's a glossy silver that doesn't look too bad.

I do like the color of the silver powder. They have alot of nice colors now though eastwood.
Powder coating is tricky on them old parts. I have found the out gass causes pitting on the part. You have to use there putty to fill them or just grind it out. You have to preheat the part for it to out gass. Very tuff stuff..We did empty pepsi can. Crushed them! It still didn't come off!

Re: Curious what you would do?
Yeah, up here we have Aesthetic Finishers. They're about 15-20 miles north of Dayton. They have displays at all the big shows in a pretty wide radius. They're set to be able to do something as long as a dragster frame. I talked to them about bumpers last year someplace and if I remember correctly it was about $150 to do a bumper. That's about a quarter of the cost to chrome one and it looks pretty good.
