Ok all, this afternoon I started prepping for the metal replacement in the drivers door.

I am starting with a small patch 3 x 6

me next task is to shape the metalfor the bottom of the door. Anyone got any ideas or pointers I started to bend and neat but left marks I didn't like. should I heat this with a torch?

What have you done.

thanks Bill

do not heat with a torch.. is it a drastic bend??? Is the Door off the car?? If its off you can bring it out here and I will show you how?? If its a gradual bend, I usually just tack the top and work my way down with tacks working the bend as you go down.I usually try to keep a 1/16" gap all the way around that way you get good penetration and no over lap.. Work it slow don't get carried away welding it takes time so it soes not warp..If yyou can wait till next week I can maybe stop over or if the door is off we could have a small info session over here for anybody who is interested, or we can just cut some sheet metal and I can show you here ..

The door is of the car, paint stripped, sanded, the bend is gradual at the bottom. I will plan on bringing it Monday night. will a bucket of wings work. Metalba wheels? Grinding wheels? Let me know what to provide.
