Free Small Block

Post by LRS30 on November 20th 2007, 10:05 pm

OK here I go, My brother just found a 1958 Chev. 283 that will fit the bill for his Hot Rod so he is going to picked it up and now I have gained control of the sbc that is on the stand in my garage, yes its a small displacement anemic 305 but its a start and its free to the club. No this will not get us into the 10's yet alone the 13's..... But its a start if everyone agree's to this than we have an engine. If not let me know if anybody else has an engine to donate, and this thing will sit on my stand for another year...lol. Its just a thought I personally think it would make a good learning engine for those guy's who have never been on the 1320 we do not need to get anybody killed we can always pull it in favor of another hopped up SBC if one comes along just a thought guy's and the price is right.....Ryan...p.s. let me know what everyone think's?

Sound like a plan and with sbc if you set it up for one you set it up for all.

Vickers just called me. he said he wanted to donate a rearend to the gasser. he's not sure if it's a 8" or a 9" he said he got it for his Falcon but today he bought a disk brake 9' for his. he said we can have this if we want it. it is complete drum to drum with new brakes. we will need to check it out to see what it is and what gear it has in it. Jeff also has that 9" at his house. so I guess we have a rearend when we are ready for it. whichever one we use.

This thing is really coming together parts wise....I love when a plan starts to gain some speed....My brother talked to a graphic artist buddy of his and he said when we are ready he will doo some lettering if we want(freebie, zero, zilch, natta,) sorry had to do it...I just have to give him a hand getting his 54 Stude Comamnder running so he can go cruising with us this upcoming year...We need to come up with a cool gasser name for the door. The Kentucky Shaker,....The scrounger think of some names guys and I will give them to him so he can work up a style of lettering that will work on the car....

So is everyone in agreement on the SBC???? If not let me know, I'm having a urge to start a low budget project of my own...Since it's looking like I'm not gonna ride scooters anymore, I'm thinking the next best thing a nice 2 seater T just for me and the misses to tool around in.

that's a cool bucket. the way the pole is running looks like a chevy is going in. if you need the engine we can use it for mock up then find one for the gasser. I think the Chevy will be the way to go. if we use it for a mock up for the mounts and headers we will have the car already set up when we put one in it.
what on line for the next wrench date? weld in the front spring mounts? when do you want to mess with it again?

I dont know if it helps or Not, but i have a extra 350 clean and bare block, that can be used for mock up if you guys need it,, i can drop it off at your house,, it has a hole in the cylinder so its a bad block but like i said its nice and clean, and its lite to move around,, let me know if it can be used,,,

That I like and adjustable as well... Looks like Ferrell is going to join in on this session. I should have enough gas to tack everything up and if we run out I can get more on Thursday to do all the finish welding(since only one of us can weld at a time...I will make sure to have the garage ready to go, what time are you thinking????

depends on Cole. Cole do ya know what time you are coming if you do? someone else would be better to weld on the brackets. I can make it stick but it's not pretty. No
